The Findlay Soccer Team is on a roll this season with a 9-2 record. The team secured a Great Midwest Conference (GMAC) tournament spot on Saturday, Oct. 7 with a 3-1 win over Malone.

Contributing to their success is Sophomore Josh Dickinson. Dickinson was recently named GMAC player of the week on Oct. 10.

The starting midfielder had a standout week with three goals and four assists in Great Midwest matches. Dickinson also led the Oilers to victory over Malone scoring two of the team’s three goals. This win helped the team solidify their spot in the GMAC tournament.

Dickinson is excited about both his own achievements and the team’s success as a whole.

“[I’m] over the moon,” Dickinson said. “It’s an achievement I’ve wanted to accomplish since I came here.”

As he is originally from Doncaster, England, Dickinson explains he chose to attend the University of Findlay for many reasons.

“I suppose because of the coach,” Dickinson said. “[He] was really positive about the team.”

Dickinson also says he was drawn to Findlay because of their success last year and because of the campus. “I liked that Findlay wasn’t too big so I wouldn’t get distracted and could concentrate on school,” he added.

Dickinson states he has high goals for both himself and the team for the remainder of the season. “As a team, the goal is to win the GMAC tournament,” Dickinson said. “Personally, we’ve got six more games left, I want to have more goals and assists.”

He also strives to finish top three in assists in the league overall.

The Oilers are back in action at Lake Erie College on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. Their next home game is on Tuesday, Oct. 17 against Ashland.
