After a pair of loses last week, the University of Findlay Women’s basketball team has officially been eliminated from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament contention. The Lady Oilers lost to Malone University last week in a heartbreaker game that ended 74-70.

“I was disappointed with our defensive effort considering what was on the line,” said coach Jim Wiedie following Saturday’s loss. “It’s been our Achilles’ heel all year long.”

In her final game at Croy, Margaret Wuebker went out by scoring a team-high 19 points and also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Fellow senior Kelsey Lewis went 2-2 from the field for four points and three rebounds in her nine minutes of play.

“Those two have been the epitome of the type of player you want representing this program,” said Wiedie of the seniors. “They’re skilled basketball players, terrific students, but more importantly, they’re terrific young ladies.”

The Oilers will close out the season with one more game Thursday at Wayne State University. They are currently 15-12 and 10-11 in the GLIAC.
