Roughnecks Pin Davenport, Indoor Track Races Ahead

The Findlay Roughnecks faced Davenport on Saturday, Jan. 24, dominating the meet with a 46-3 win. There were four wins via pins throughout different weight classes from Ashton Anderson, Donavyn Watts, Chase Stein, and Giulian Bodiu. The team was scheduled to face Ashland on Sunday, Jan. 25, but due to inclement weather, the matchup has been postponed to Feb. 8. The Roughnecks will travel to Owensboro, Kentucky, for the Great Midwest Championship.

The University of Findlay men’s basketball team is now 13-7 after an 84-78 away win against Lake Erie on Saturday, Jan. 24. Senior Mekhi Elmore led the Oilers with 21 points, followed by junior Anthony Johnson at 13 points, and sophomore Javonte Hill with 11. The Oilers traveled to Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, Jan. 29, to face the Panthers. After a strong first half, leading 45-38, the Panthers beat the Oilers with a final score of 86-73. The Oilers take on the Cedarville Yellow Jackets next on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 3:15 p.m.

The women’s basketball team fared better against Kentucky Wesleyan than the men, snatching a 69-48 win for the Oilers. Junior MacKenzie Schulz led the charge against the Panthers with 19 points alongside senior Alyssa Ziehler, who scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. The women will face the Cedarville Yellow Jackets Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m.

The Findlay indoor track and field teams continued their indoor season after excelling at Hillsdale on Jan. 23 with 19 first-place finishes. The Oilers compete at the Penn State National Open on Friday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Jan. 31. Senior Julian Griffin and sophomore Colleen Steinmetz were GMAC Track and Field Athletes of the Week coming off wins and NCAA provisional marks at Hillsdale.

Findlay’s swimming and diving teams concluded their regular season competition and now are gearing up for the postseason. The Oilers will compete next at the Great Midwest/Mountain East Championship on Feb. 10-13 in Canton, OH.
