Oilers Golf has shown impressive performance throughout the spring season, securing tournament wins and earning individual medalist honors.
The men’s team is on a three-tournament win streak, and both programs concluded the Indianapolis Intercollegiate by claiming first-place titles, with senior Luke Metzger and junior Ashleigh Duflo each earning Individual Medalist honors.
The men opened the spring season March 9-10 at the Greenwood Invitational, placing second overall out of 18 teams. Senior Luke Metzger and freshman Ross Dietz tied for fifth overall, and senior Zack Miller placed in the top 25. The Oilers posted the lowest overall score of 847 (-17) since 2022 at the same tournament. Their third-round score of 275 (-13) was also the lowest 18-hole team score since 2024 at the same event.
On the women’s side in Wingate, NC, the ladies finished third overall, carding 16-over par at the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate in competitive match-ups featuring 8 top 10 ranked Division II teams in the country. Leading the Oilers’ all-scoring final round score of 73 (+1) was a trio of junior Ashleigh Duflo, senior Ellie Yeazell, and sophomore Gracie Woods. Duflo placed fifth overall while earning All-Tournament Team honors, her fifth top-five performance of the season.
Carrying this momentum into the following week at the SVSU Invitational, the men’s team claimed the title over 13 teams. Senior Luke Metzger earned individual medalist honors, placing first overall for the second time in his career at 2-under par, and was named G-MAC Athlete of the Week. Senior Zack Miller carded the Oilers’ lowest score of the final round at 2-over-par 74. Junior Colin Schadek followed with a 76 (+4), sophomore Cahle Roth scored an 80 (+8), and freshman Ross Dietz finished with an 81 (+9).
Both teams then competed at the Findlay Spring Invite in Richmond, Kentucky, on March 15-16, recording a weekend sweep. Sophomore Avery Thompson and senior Luke Metzger each won Individual Medalist honors.
Nationally ranked 46th, the men recorded a season-best performance against a strong field that included four teams ranked in the top 50. Within three rounds of the 54-hole event, they posted a season-best 272 (-16), the third-lowest 18-hole score in program history. With an overall finish of 30-under par, the team recorded the second-lowest 54-hole total in program history and secured its third tournament title of the season. Leading the Oilers was sophomore Cahle Roth, who placed second overall — a personal best in his college career — and earned G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors.
“Our team chemistry — we care for each person on this team and are constantly rooting for one another,” said sophomore Cahle Roth.
The women also performed well at the Findlay Spring Invite, moving from fourth to third in the latest WGCA National Poll as of March 23. Facing three other nationally ranked teams and several regional GMAC opponents, junior Ashleigh Duflo earned G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors.
To close out this stretch of road play, both teams competed at the Indianapolis Intercollegiate — and both claimed first place. For the men, it marked their third consecutive tournament title. Senior Luke Metzger earned Individual Medalist honors, finishing with a 54-hole total of 214 (-2). On the women’s side, Duflo earned Individual Medalist honors as well, finishing at even par for her third win of the season and fourth of her collegiate career. Seniors Haleigh Dye and Ellie Yeazell also delivered strong performances, tying for second overall at +7.
“It is great momentum going forward to go into the postseason with confidence and having full belief that at the end of the day, we are the best team in the country, no matter what anyone says,” said junior Ashleigh Duflo
