The University of Findlay men’s basketball team beat Ohio Dominican University 106–92 on Saturday, Jan. 17 with Senior Mekhi Elmore leading the Oilers with 26 points, and getting the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) Athlete of the Week title. However, they lost against Hillsdale 78-72 in a tense matchup Thursday, Jan. 22. Elmore led the men in points again with 20.
Oilers men’s basketball travel to take on Lake Erie on Saturday Jan. 24, at 3 p.m.
The women’s basketball also secured a win against Ohio Dominican on Jan. 17, holding on for a 64–63 victory in a tightly contested G-MAC battle. The Oilers defeated the Hillsdale Chargers, 75-49 after pulling away early and entering the second half with a 37-26 lead. They will take on Ursuline on Saturday Jan. 24, at 2 p.m.
Findlay’s wrestling team was split last weekend, competing against the University of Indianapolis on Friday, Jan. 16 and against No. 8 McKendree University. The Roughnecks beat UIndy with a 22–18 victory but had a 17-26 loss against the nationally ranked Bearcats. Senior Giulian Bodiu was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Athlete of the Week Jan. 20.
The Roughnecks are scheduled to compete Saturday, Jan. 24, at Davenport and on Sunday, Jan. 25 at home.
The Oiler swim and dive teams wrapped up their regular-season competitions with a Senior Day meet against Wayne State on Jan. 17. The men, winning 106-99 are now ranked No. 8 in the Division II College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association National Polls, while the women are No. 13 after their 139–66 victory.
Camilo Marrugo was named GMAC Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in his career on Jan. 20 after competing in the 100 fly, 200 medley relay, and 200 free relay with impressive marks.
UF’s KJ Upshaw secured a GMAC Athlete of the Week for the track team after the Findlay Alumni Classic on Jan 16. The Findlay indoor track and field teams are scheduled to compete Friday, Jan. 23 at Hillsdale College as part of the ongoing indoor season.
