The University of Findlay Oilers have been on a roll this spring, collecting records, conference wins, athlete of the week honors, and momentum across multiple sports programs.
TENNIS
The women’s tennis team achieved its highest-ever ITA national ranking at No. 4 after defeating No. 21 Adelphi. The Oilers then posted a 6-1 win over No. 30 Davenport and a 7-0 sweep of conference rival Ashland on March 22, with Anamarija Kovacvic and Audrey Ouellet leading the doubles with a 6-2 win. Findlay currently sits at No. 8 in the national team rankings.
The men’s tennis team currently holds a 7-5 overall record and is 2-0 in G-MAC play. After their fifth consecutive win—a 7-0 sweep of Ashland on March 22—the Oilers began by winning all three doubles courts, claiming the opening point. The nation’s second-ranked doubles team of Matthias Veniard and Soh Kuyma led the charge with a 6-2 win.
WOMEN’S GOLF
The Oilers began the spring season at the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate, finishing third overall, with Ashleigh Duflo placing fifth and earning all-tournament honors and G-MAC Athlete of the Week. The following week, Avery Thompson won the individual title at the Findlay Spring Invitational. The women’s golf team now ranks third nationally in the WGCA poll.
MEN’S GOLF
The men’s golf team opened spring with a second-place finish at Greenwood, highlighted by a record-setting third round. The following week, they won at SVSU, with senior Luke Metzger earning medalist honors. To close, the Oilers captured their third title of the season at the Findlay Spring Invitational, led by Cale Roth’s second-place finish.
BASEBALL
The Findlay baseball team is 16-9 this season, riding an eight-game winning streak. The Oilers swept Kentucky Wesleyan on March 22 with two walk-off victories — freshman Drew Tucker’s hustle set up junior Luke Seneften’s game-winning single in Game 1, and sophomore Mason Myers delivered the walk-off in Game 2 after a ninth-inning rally from a 5-2 deficit. The Oilers then capped the streak with a historic 12-7 win over BGSU on March 25, totaling 19 hits — the first win over the Falcons since 1978.
“We have a great deal of momentum as a team right now. Our pitching has been fantastic as of late, and offense has been producing,” said junior Luke Seneften.
SOFTBALL
The Findlay softball team is 18-7 overall and 3-1 in G-MAC play this spring. Senior Anika Brendel became the program’s all-time leading home run scorer with her 24th career homer in Game 2 against Parkside on March 15, earning G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors the following week. Maintaining their strong play, the Oilers went 3-1 on the weekend against Malone and Ursuline to open conference competition.
“Take one series at a time — knowing if we play our game, we are set for success,” Brendel said, adding that the team’s focus is on “being present.”
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
The Findlay women’s lacrosse team enters the week at 4-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Oilers opened G-MAC competition with an 11-5 win over Malone and a 12-6 victory over Walsh, displaying strong first halves and sharp offense led by Rebecca Chmiel and Karissa Allbright. Goalkeeper Caroline Weber anchored the defense throughout and earned G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors. Against Lewis on Wednesday, Findlay jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Lewis took control in the second quarter, closing the game on a 4-0 run to hand the Oilers a 13-6 loss.
