Relationship building is essential to growth and development. The relationships you create with your professors and advisors are some of the most important relationships you’ll have throughout your time at the University of Findlay. It’s important to know that while part of their job is to teach you in the classroom, their responsibilities extend far beyond that. They want to help you achieve your goals and want to see you be successful, both in your career and in your personal lives, far beyond your time here at UF. They can’t help you achieve those goals unless you tell them what they are.
My advice to you is to get to know your professors and advisors. Look them in the eye, shake their hands, and introduce yourselves. Participate in class and push yourselves outside of your comfort zone to try something new. Don’t let fear hold you back from anything you want to accomplish. Talk to your professors and advisors about what a meaningful life and productive career looks like to you during and beyond your time here UF. Also, tell them what types of internships or experiences you would like to have while in school. They can’t help you achieve your goals if they don’t know what they are and trust me, it means to the world to them when they see you achieve and surpass your goals.
Remember, you are why we are all here – it’s magical watching the transformation that occurs within you during your time at UF. So, ask questions, share your dreams, and have the courage to step boldly into the Oiler experience. Take advantage of the knowledge and connections that your professors and advisors have. Be sure to utilize your resources and once you graduate, you’ll be ready to conquer the business of life.
