Liz Callaway, a Tony nominated and Emmy Award winning actress and singer, will be performing as part of the University of Findlay’s Donnell Broadway Concert Series this Sunday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Stewart Center. The event is free for all University of Findlay students and faculty to attend, thanks to the generous endowment from Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Donnell.
This will mark Callaway’s second time performing as part of the series, with her first having been for the concert series debut in 2006. She was scheduled to return to the University of Findlay this past January for the 20th anniversary of the series, but the event was cancelled due to a snowstorm.
Callaway is best known for her work on Broadway, including her rolls in “Baby,” “Miss Saigon,” “The Look of Love,” “Cats,” and more. Fans of the hit musical animation series “Hazbin Hotel” may recognize her as the voice behind Speaker of God in season two.
Grammy nominated Broadway conductor, Phil Reno, will be accompanying Callaway on the piano during Sunday’s performance and he may speak as well. Reno is known for conducting many Broadway musicals, including “Cats,” “Something Rotten!,” “Elf the Musical,” and more.
Dr. Michael Anders, former choir director at the University of Findlay for 35 years, is the long-time producer of the Donnell Broadway Concert Series. In a phone interview, Dr. Anders spoke highly of Ms. Callaway and her ability to deliver an incredible show.
“She [Calloway] is such a concert artist, she’s performed all over the world,” Anders said. “She’s got so many songs in her repertoire. Every time she performs, she does something different, so I don’t know what we’re going to get.”
Every artist who participates in the Donnell Broadway Concert Series is given the freedom to perform a setlist of their choosing.
“I have no idea what she [Callaway] is going to sing,” Anders said. “We’ll find out on Sunday night and that’s the joy of the Donnell Series.”
