After a successful technology-based event last year, the University of Findlay’s Level Up symposium will return this year focusing on a broad range of professional and soft skills identified as most valuable for students with the theme “Building the Business Toolkit.”

The event is designed to support student needs following the merger of the College of Business and the College of Humanities, broadening the range of represented skills.

“We were looking for opportunities where the colleges can come together and collaborate on something bigger and more substantial that would impact both groups of majors,” said Brandon Miller, assistant professor of teaching in finance and economics.

The symposium is centered around education and networking. Sessions include a keynote speaker, lunch, and three breakout sessions for a variety of majors.

Sessions will feature professionals from areas including accounting, marketing, supply chain management, entrepreneurship, criminal justice, ethical leadership, and creative fields.

Topics will range from content creation and publishing to ethical leadership, sales strategies, and data visualization. By highlighting both hard and soft skills, Level Up hopes to reinforce the value of ethical decision-making, adaptability, communication, and technical skills for career success.

“I want students to be able to see themselves and their own interests reflected back to them,” said Lindsay Fees, coordinator of engagement and enrollment for the College of Business and Humanities.

“In order to have meaningful lives and productive careers, you have to go out after this and do something,” said Miller.

Through the theme “Building the Business Toolkit,” Level Up’s leaders hope to reflect UF’s motto of “meaningful lives and productive careers” by connecting students directly with professionals in their fields, providing real-world perspectives, and offering direct access to professionals.

Level Up will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Winebrenner, and most College of Business and Humanities classes will be released for the day. To secure a spot and receive class credit, students must pre-register at the Level Up registration page.
