With half of the season left, the University of Findlay’s women’s basketball team currently stands at 16-4 overall and 9-2 GMAC. They maintained a nine-game win streak until their loss against Ashland.
Though the team made many memorable moments this season, head coach Michele Durand says that two moments that stand out to her are the team’s trip to Montana in November and beating Division 1 Wright State before Thanksgiving. H
“The whole season has been memorable so far as we have made significant improvements from last year,” Durand said.
The women’s basketball team offers several strong seniors setting the pace for the team. Durand says that she is confident for the season ahead partially because of the leadership of the team’s seniors — Kate Ellis, Chloe Callahan, Janae Hoying and McKenna Stevens. Just last week, senior Kate Ellis reached a career-high 26 points in a game against the Ashland Eagles.
In December, Durand stated that maintaining consistency over the long basketball season would be a challenge for the team.
“Our morale is good,” Durand said. “I think we have been pretty consistent. We are hitting the home stretch with some really big games ahead of us.”
The team set the goal of winning the GMAC this season.
“We are taking things one game at a time, but our number one goal is to always win the GMAC,” Durand said. “If we can finish in the top four, it will secure a first-round home game in the conference tournament.”
The team takes on Hillsdale away on Jan. 25. G-MAC tournament quarterfinals begin on March 4.
