Football’s big win one of many for UF Oilers this weekend

No. 9 University of Findlay football team moves to 10-0 overall and 8-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference after beating No. 15 Ashland University 14-3 Saturday, Nov. 7. Ashland is now 8-2 overall and 7-1 in the G-MAC. This moves UF to first place in the G-MAC with one game left in the regular season against Tiffin University 6-4 overall, 5-3 in the conference.

The first quarter ended with no points on the board but the Oilers put up 14 in the second quarter with two touchdowns.  That was the last time Oilers would score.

UF defense held Eagles scoreless in the first half and gave up a field goal in the third quarter. Defense held for the rest of the second half and UF controlled the clock throughout the game keeping the ball for 35:08 to Ashland’s 24:52.

Oilers take on the Tiffin Dragons in Donnell Stadium at noon, Saturday, Nov. 15 in the Battle of 224.

UF football wasn’t the only team celebrating a win Saturday.  UF’s volleyball team moves to 21-3 after beating Thomas More University in three sets, Saturday, Nov. 8 (25-13, 25-15, 25-22) and Kentucky Wesleyan Friday Nov. 7 in three sets (25-10, 25-10, 25-18). Oiler volleyball is “under consideration” in the first regional ranking released this Wednesday. There are three more regional rankings to be released between now and the start of the NCAA DII playoff bracket to be announced on Nov. 24.

There are two regular season volleyball games left, both at home. UF plays Northwood (11-10) Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and Hillsdale (12-10) Saturday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m.

The University of Findlay men’s soccer team advances to the semi-finals in the G-MAC tournament after an intense game at home against Thomas More. Regulation time ended in a 1-1 tie. After two overtime periods, Oilers took the win with a penalty kick. Oilers are 9-5-4 overall and 8-3-3 in the G-MAC. The semi-final game is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 13 against No. 23 Tiffin University, the regular season G-MAC champions, 11-2-4 overall and 10-1-3 in conference play.

The G-MAC women’s soccer tournament started Saturday, Nov. 8, though UF’s women’s team advanced directly to the semifinals after earning a bye in the quarterfinals. The Lady Oilers (11-3-5 overall and 10-2-2 in conference) take on Cedarville (12-2-5 overall, 9-1-4 in conference) Thursday, Nov. 13 at 3:30 p.m. at Ashland University.

UF men’s and women’s cross country teams also competed Saturday, Nov. 8 for the 2025 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional meet in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The women’s team finished eighth out of 27 teams, while the men placed 12th out of 29.
