As the college baseball season begins, the University of Findlay’s team gears up for a competitive schedule. With a younger roster and a strong team bond, the focus is on development, leadership, and performance.

Assistant Coach Brant Mullins emphasizes that early non-conference games are crucial for testing the team’s abilities and preparing for conference play. The goal is not only to win games but also to establish a strong playing style and build confidence against tough competition.

While victories matter, Mullins stresses the importance of player growth beyond the scoreboard. He wants his players to develop both as athletes and individuals, learning to handle various game situations and uphold the team’s standards. Leadership is another key area, as he encourages players to support and guide each other through challenges.

Senior pitcher Logan Bragg plays a vital role in this, leading the pitching staff and easing some of the pressure on the coaching staff.

“It is a big role because I feel like it has to do with the entire pitching staff; I feel like I am leading them in some way,” Bragg said. “It helps take some of the pressure off Coach Mullins whenever he has other tasks.”

Motivation and consistency are central themes for the team this season. Mullins believes in honest conversations and maintaining a solid routine, ensuring the team remains focused regardless of previous game outcomes.

Players like Bragg and sophomore hitter Nick Palm also take personal responsibility for their preparation. Bragg stays mentally sharp with music and rest, while Palm has adjusted his approach at the plate and takes pride in his defensive contributions.

“From last year to this year it is a lot different for me,” Palm said. “Last year I was in the nine-hole. This year I am focusing on defensively being my best and helping our team win games.”

Balancing academics with athletics is another challenge for student-athletes. Palm’s advice to his younger teammates is to stay ahead on assignments early in the week so they can fully concentrate on weekend games. This level of discipline and preparation is crucial for long-term success on and off the field.
