For junior Addisyn Freeman, playing basketball at the University of Findlay is more than just a sport – it’s a family legacy and a path towards her future career.

Freeman, a native of Elida, Ohio, was drawn to Findlay not only because of the basketball program but also due to the university’s unique sonography program, which is rare in the region. “Sonography is only a two-year program, but I turned it into a four-year program because I wanted to play basketball all four years,” Freeman said.

Being close to family played a major role in her decision to attend Findlay. “I’m very family-oriented, so any chance to see family is a must,” she said. Freeman hopes to secure a clinical connection back in Lima, Ohio, close to home, and ideally get hired straight out of the program.

Basketball runs in Freeman’s blood. Her mother was a standout player at Findlay and is a member of the basketball program’s Hall of Fame. “It runs in the family,” Freeman said. “I was looking to get scholarships to pay for school.” Starting as a walk-on, Freeman eventually earned a scholarship, proving her dedication and skill on the court.

Over the years, Freeman has developed not only as an athlete but also as a leader on the team. Her coaches and teammates respect her work ethic and commitment. “Addisyn has been a key player in the locker room and on the court,” said junior Sophie Huffman, one of her teammates. “Her determination to balance her academic goals with basketball is an evident example of who she is as a person.”

As she looks into her future, Freeman remains focused on her two goals. After graduation in May of 2027, she plans to dive right into sonography and hopes to make an immediate impact in her clinical work. Freeman wants to stay involved in basketball, but doesn’t necessarily see herself coaching in the future. “I want to help my kids if they play, but I don’t exactly see the label of being a coach in my future,” she said.

Balancing academics, athletics, and family, Addisyn Freeman is a clear example of what it means to be a student-athlete, driven by passion and grounded in her roots of being in northwest Ohio.
