On April 23 from 7-9 p.m. the University Writing Center is hosting its annual Portfolio Smash.
Sean Steele, a Graduate Writing Consultant, says all students and projects are welcome to the Writing Center.
“Any paper or project that involves putting words together the Writing Center can help,” Steele said. “This includes essays, presentations, speeches, portfolios, Vet school applications, and even capstone projects.”
Students are encouraged to come in and work on whatever they please while having access to help from Steele and other tutors to help with any writing needs, advice, corrections, or tips to writing.
The Writing Center uses a 3-cup system. Each student is given a red cup, meaning they are stuck and would like assistance, a yellow cup, meaning they are working through it but could possibly use another’s opinion or guidance, and a green cup, signifying that they are okay and do not need help now.
Steele says the Writing Center focuses on a “come-whenever, do-whatever” and “free-will” mentality to encourage all students to feel welcome no matter what sort of writing they may be working on.
The writing center is in the CBSL under the stairwell and students are welcome to come and go as they please.
During the Portfolio Smash free food and snacks are provided.
There is another event on April 28 from 7-11 p.m. that the Writing Center is offering called Late Night Procrastinating. Very similarly to the Portfolio Smash students are encouraged to come to the Writing Center to work on any sort of writing with assistance when needed.
The Late-Night Procrastination event is one last opportunity that is open for a longer time window to allow all students to get the help they may need.
Students can also set up online tutoring sessions through Starfish. Students with questions can email, writingcenter@findlay.edu.
