All international student visas at the University of Findlay have been restored according to Kathy Patton, director of international admissions at UF.

UF President, Dr. Katherine Fell sent out an email on April 14 addressing ongoing issues with visas for international college students. It implied there have been a least some possible visa terminations at UF. Patton confirms there were a minimal number of visa terminations but they are all in active status now.

Reuters reports that as of April 25, the Trump administration restored statuses of several foreign students after judges in dozens of cases issued temporary restraining orders.

Shortly before that move by the Trump administration, Inside Higher Ed reported more than “280 colleges and universities have identified 1,800-plus international students and recent graduates who have had their legal status changed by the State Department.”

Reuters reports that “since Trump took office on January 20, records for more than 4,700 students have been removed from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-maintained Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), according to the American Immigration Lawyers Association.”

The UF International Admissions office works to help international students navigate the visa process but also has a disclaimer on the website stating it is able to provide general guidance for international students on visa issues.

“However, any advice provided to you by our office, as well as the information on this page, should not be construed as legal advice. Additionally, due to the fluid nature of governmental interpretation, the USCIS may change its interpretation of these immigration laws/regulations and eligibility requirements for benefits, at any time. We will do our best to provide you with the most current guidance. It is also recommended to speak with an experienced immigration attorney who knows and understands the change of status application procedure for assistance in completing the I-539 and I-539A forms and filing the change of status application with USCIS.”

The Institute of International Education Fall 2024 Snapshot on International Student Enrollment in the U.S. shows  International student totals grew by 3% in the 2024/25 academic year.

A map released by the UF Office of Institutional Research and Assessment last falls showed about 340 international students at UF with most of those coming from India(220) and Ghana (33). UF is ending the year with 302 international students from 38 countries according to Patton.
