New club alert: Pickleball club

The University of Findlay introduces the Pickleball Club this spring and utilizes the new courts upon their opening once the weather warms up.

Nicholas You gave an inside look at what to expect from this club and the opportunities that will arise.

The Pickleball Club offers flexibility for students to attend as their schedules permit, with weekly meetings held on Fridays at 5 p.m.

“During the spring semester, the club will play in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex on the SRC courts (by Derrick’s Hangout) every Friday at 5 p.m.,” You said. “We will play until about 7 p.m.”

The meetings feature an open play style, allowing participants to find their next match while waiting for a court to open. This club is open to those at all different levels.

“My advice for a newcomer is to get out and play,” You said. “There are a lot of rules, and the game is easy to pick up.”

Joining this club offers exercise for both the mind and body.

“Pickleball is appealing because anybody can play. Age, sports background, or knowledge of the game does not matter,” You said. “While not as intense on the body as other sports, it is still a full-body workout. Stretching is still important. No matter how a game goes, I always have fun playing.”

Students don’t need to buy equipment to participate in the club.

“The equipment room has plenty of spare paddles for students to borrow,” You said. “If a student decides they want their own gear, many department stores and Amazon offer a selection of equipment.”

The club hopes to connect to all types of students through pickleball and is excited for their future on campus. For any questions, please contact Nicholas You at YouN@Findlay.edu.
