It is still a month away but plans for Homecoming and Family Weekend at the University of Findlay Oct. 9-12 are underway.
While many people think of Homecoming as the big football game at Donnell Stadium, there are a number of events that take place all week.
In a news release, UF President Katherine Fell said the common phrase she hears about Findlay is it just feels like home.
“It might be the lifelong friendships, the supportive faculty and staff, the dynamic community, the learning environment, or our culture of caring for others that makes UF a special place,” Fell said.
Things kick off on Thursday, Oct. 9 with Pop by the Rock from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Spirit Rock in front of Morey Hall. Students can stop by for a selfie, treats, and a chance to put their stamp on the Spirit Rock.
The Bonfire Bash: Flames, Festivities, and Fun begins at 7:30 p.m. at DeHaven Soccer Stadium with live music from student DJs. “Sports teams will be introduced, and free T-shirts will be handed out to the first 250 people. Revive Worship Band will close out the night with a worship service,” the release said.
On Friday, Oct. 10 the Oiler Palooza Battle of the Bands begins at 7 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Center for Student Life & College of Business (CBSL). The bands feature student, faculty, staff, and alumni performers. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.
The Heart Healthy 5K and 1.5-mile Fun Walk shotgun start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Griffith Memorial Arch with check-in beginning at 7 a.m.
American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists is hosting the 10th annual 5K and 1.4-mile fun walk. A portion of event proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association. Fee and registration required, according to the release.
Tailgating for the football game begins Saturday at noon at Donnell Stadium. The Oilers kick off against Hillsdale Chargers at 2 p.m. At the game the 2025 Homecoming Court will be announced, along with the 2025 Distinguished Alumni awardees. The Oiler marching band will welcome back UF band alumni to perform with them. Also, the 1995 NAIA National Championship football team will be recognized, according to the release.
Finish up the day with Oiler Movie Night Under the Stars at 8:30 p.m. at DeHaven Soccer Stadium where you can relive the magic of “High School Musical.”

“No matter how long you’ve been away,” Fell said, “perhaps just a few months or maybe quite a few years – Findlay will always be your home.”
