Welcome back from the editor

By Kendall Westgate, WestgateK@Findlay.edu

Only a couple more days till the hustle and bustle of school begins and summer vacation comes to an end. The Pulse looks forward to providing the University of Findlay with the most important and timely news.

This year in particular is significant due to the election year. The Pulse plans to run a “mock election” event for the UF students to participate in. Other major news coverage includes the UF merger with Bluffton University.

I, Kendall Westgate, am honored to continue the position as managing editor for the second year. With a major in English Equine Studies and minors in Digital Media and Business Management, this role allows me to progress in my journalism skills for after graduation.

In high school, I was the Editor-in-Chief of my school’s newspaper publication, which sparked my interest in journalism. Since then, I took Prof. Rogan’s newswriting class to further build my skill set, in order to become the managing editor for the Pulse.

As managing editor, I work to post weekly stories to the Pulse website, edit stories from student reporters, come up with weekly story ideas and write my own stories. Be sure to check the Pulse website every Friday for new stories. Also, follow @ufpulse on Instagram for story postings and other updates.

The Pulse’s mission statement is, “Pulse Media is made up of student driven content creators in all forms of digital media. Students work with industry-experienced advisers to plan, develop, and produce content for all three media outlets with the goal to learn and serve the UF community with thoughtful, entertaining, and informative digital media content.”

This mission statement means a lot to me, since my goal is to provide the UF community with trustworthy and relevant news. But, I also look forward to providing entertaining, feature stories. Throughout this academic year, our team will continue to write stories with this mission statement in mind.

If anyone has potential story ideas in mind, please email them to WestgateK@Findlay.edu. I also love to hear feedback about our publication, so we can better the Pulse for the community.

The Pulse is looking to hire student reporters and a digital media editor. If this role seems of interest, please reach out to Prof. Amy Rogan by email Rogan@Findlay.edu. This role helps immerse students into the UF community, while also building writing skills. While we would love to hire those with previous journalism experience, we will train for the right candidates.

Thank you to the community for letting us inform you about timely and engaging news. Stay tuned for weekly stories published on the Pulse.
