Recently the University of Findlay started a student government association-recognized club dedicated to unwinding from the hustle and bustle of college life and enjoying a relaxing meeting with others.
Unwinding at UF is open to all skills and levels of crochet and knitting. The club’s mission is to be able to step back from school and do something relaxing.
With each meeting, comes a new stitch or help on a current project. The club offers the materials needed for each new project, as well.
Unwinding works to help members learn about crocheting by posting free patterns to Google Drive for any member to access. While crocheting is worked on the most in the club, they still incorporate knitting. They also hope to add sewing projects to the mixture of crafts available to members.
President Kayla Richardson started her own Makerspace which allows for one-on-one help by learning to crochet a drink coaster. A Makerspace is an area where people with common interests can go to learn more about a craft or other projects and work together to collaborate. Materials are provided during this time or there’s the opportunity to 3-D print your hook.
The first meeting will take place on Aug. 29 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the CBSL Room 120. Meetings are offered every other Thursday.
Questions about this club can be directed to the officer team or advisors Dr. Pitt and Dr. Medjeski. The officer team consists of President Kayla Richardson, Vice President Elizabeth Frazier, Secretary Mackala Krichbaum, Treasure Debbie Daniel and Public Relations officers Addie Fitzgerald and Kaitlyn Gannon.
