*The Pulse is exploring the policy statements from each major candidate in the 2024 presidential race. This article breaks down the issues from Senator James David Vance.
Republican Senator James David (JD) Vance was sworn into office in 2023. He is running as Vice President for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
Senator Vance was born in Middletown Ohio and raised by his grandmother who passed away in 2005.
Senator Vance has an education from Ohio State University where he studied Science and Philosophy and graduated in 2009. In 2013 Vance graduated from Yale Law School.
Before Senator Vance completed law school, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 2003 to 2007 in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Vance wrote the bestselling book Hillbilly Elegy in 2016 based on his own life which has been created into a Netflix movie.
Senator Vance is “pro-life” however he believes that it is ultimately up to the state jurisdiction. He believes that the abortion pill Mifepristone should be available.
Senator Vance is opposed to the funding aid of Ukraine by the United States as he believes that the Ukrainians are not closer to victory than when this started.
Senator Vance has dismissed the need for tighter gun control laws and is in favor of abolishing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that enforces these laws.
Senator Vance is calling for tougher immigration policies to protect those born natively. Vance released a bill in 2023 to become tougher with visa overstays. He is pushing for the construction of the border wall which was initiated by President Trump.
Senator Vance wants more activity in government intervention in the economy. This includes higher wages as well as higher corporate taxes.
Senator Vance is calling for lower prescription drug costs, especially for those seniors in our nation. Senator Vance voiced that pharmacies should have the capability to get these prescription drugs overseas for lower prices.
Senator Vance strongly opposed gender-affirming health care for minors and introduced a bill that could punish those who provide this care.
