Former President Donald Trump was born in 1946 in Queens, New York, and is 78 years of age. He is married to Melania Trump (his wife of 19 years), and has five children. Trump holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics & Real Estate and is the author of several business books, according to the Trump Library.
Trump was the 45th president of the United States from 2017-2021. During his time in office, Trump’s administration secured the lowest unemployment rate in half a century, particularly for women and minorities, increased middle-class tax cuts, created trade deals to increase sales of American-made goods, appointed a historic number of federal judges, established the Space Force and increased defense spending, reformed the department of Veterans Affairs, built a wall along the southern border, and more, according to the Trump White House website.
President Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in 2019 for abuse of power and in 2021 for inciting an insurrection but was found not guilty on both charges. He ran in the 2020 election but lost to Democrat candidate Joe Biden. Trump was the first U.S. Chief Executive in more than 150 years to refuse to attend their successor’s election.
In May of 2024, Trump was found guilty of 34 felony charges against him, primarily regarding hush money and record-falsifying scandals, but was not imprisoned, according to The Atlantic.
Trump is running as the GOP nominee in the 2024 presidential election alongside VP candidate JD Vance, with a platform of “Make America Great Again.” Key issues in his 2024 platform, according to his official website, include reducing inflation, enforcing immigration laws and increasing deportations, protecting Social Security and Medicare, instituting tax cuts for workers, strengthening the military, increasing American energy production, and pulling out of the Paris Agreement.
