Alyson Stover MOT, JD, OTR/L, BCP is an associate professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh. She obtained her Juris Doctorate in law with a post-graduate certificate in health law from the University of Pittsburgh. Her areas of practice expertise include pediatrics, trauma-informed occupational therapy, and holistic approaches to substance use disorder. Additionally, Dr. Stover is one of only 20 individuals in Pennsylvania holding AOTA Board Certification in Pediatrics. She owns a private outpatient pediatric practice north of Pittsburgh and co-founded a non-profit organization that uses occupation to address community, societal and population needs. She has served as PI and Co-PI on various nationally and state-funded research projects involving SBIRT-Plus development and training, trauma-informed occupational therapy for the intervention of children who have experienced sexual trauma, and the use of occupational therapy in the treatment of substance misuse. Dr. Stover’s interests include using occupational therapy as a powerful driving force for larger health care change, advancing occupational therapy’s national and global relevance, and occupational therapy’s role as a leader in policy development and implementation. Her clinical passion is in access to care for underserved and underrepresented populations. Dr. Stover commenced her position as President of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) on July 1, 2022.
