With Halloween fast approaching, it’s only necessary to get into the fall festivities. One way to do this is by attending Halloween parties. Which this year, the student-group Dance On will be hosting a Halloween Party on campus.

The Great Pumpkin Halloween Party will be held on Oct. 26 in the Alumni Memorial Union’s Multipurpose Room from 7 pm to 10 pm. All UF students are invited free of charge but outside guests must pay a fee of $5. Participants should come dressed in costumes to take part in the costume contest and come hungry as finger foods will be provided.

This event is hosted by Dance On, which is an on-campus dance organization. Alexis Caroline, a senior Psychology major and President of Dance On, explained what Dance On actually does.

“We teach and learn all kinds of dance,” said Caroline. “We stay in touch with the dancers of the surrounding community and always encourage others to join the non-judgmental environment of our club.”

Dance On has worked with a number of types of dance so far this year including, “the waltz, east coast swing, modern jive, hip-hop, and a few other contemporary styles,” listed Caroline. The club wanted to expand their interactions with UF campus by hosting events like The Great Pumpkin Halloween Party.

It was a whole group effort to put this event together, with Caroline thanking the members of the club. As a first-time event, there are high hopes for it to be a smash with UF students.

“I hope to see a lot of students at the event since it is a first-time event,” expressed Caroline. “We all would like to see 100 people or more come to the party, as well as hear good feedback in regards to whether the event should return next Halloween.”

The party has more than just dancing, too, as there will also be games like Jumbo Jenga and cornhole. Those who attend will also get Snoopy themed t-shirts.

Wearing a costume is not required, but it is absolutely recommended. There are 12 categories for students to win, with Caroline listing them as, “Best Costume, Most Creative Costume, Most Colorful Costume, Cutest Costume, Most Bloody Costume, Most Unique Costume, Funniest Costume, Sexiest Costume, Best Couples Costume, Most Original Costume, Scariest Costume, and Overall Best Costume.”

Though this is the first year for this event, Dance On hopes to make this an annual party to celebrate Halloween with UF students.

“We rely heavily on students to come out and support us so that we can make this event possible every year,” said Caroline. “We hope to see you all there!”
