On Oct. 7 and 8, The Lady Oiler Golf Team hosted the annual William Beall Fall Classic Tournament at the Findlay Country Club, hosting 17 teams to compete for victory. After three rounds of golf, the Lady Oilers finished Runners-Up with a final score of 908, with only the University of Indianapolis outscoring the Lady Oilers with a score of 886.

While the Oilers were hoping for another tournament win, especially on their home course, Head Coach Dominic Guarnieri was happy with the team results. More importantly for Guarnieri, he can take what they did and didn’t do and use it for the spring season.

“I think we learned a lot about ourselves this week,” said Guarnieri. “We played really good yesterday [October 7th], we were right there, but we struggled today. But we will look at what we did and learn from it and move on and try to do better.”

While they didn’t win the tournament, Guarnieri and the rest of the team enjoyed themselves a little bit, stating that he feels that the Findlay Country Club has never been in better shape for the William Beall.

“This is probably the best weather we’ve had since I’ve been coaching here,” Guarneri stated. “The golf course was great with phenomenal conditions. I think it’s a good challenge for all [of] the girls and I think everybody enjoyed it.”

The Lady Oilers were led by Meredith Wipper, who had a record-tying 2nd round on Day One, finishing 5-under par, 67, over 18 holes. She received all-tournament honors after the final round. Wipper wanted to win the tournament as much as Guarnieri, but she does credit the rest of the field as being very strong.

“There was a lot of good teams here.” Wipper said.

Wipper hopes that even in a second-place finish, that they can keep moving forward and build on their successful fall and take into the spring

[We’re] just building on this for the rest of the fall and going into the spring,” said Wipper.

The Lady Oilers concluded their fall season at the Dayton Invitational in Dayton, OH on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 14 and 15. They resume play when their spring season starts up, Mar.14, at Saginaw Valley St. Spring Invite in Georgetown, KY.
