The University of Findlay is not a large campus, but it can feel that way when you’re searching for help. But do not fret, UF has got you covered with a helpful staff willing to get you where you want to be.
At UF, there are services for almost every problem a student can have, and one of the first places they can check out is the Oiler Success Center located on the first floor of Old Main. Liz Sabel, the Assistant Dean of Student Success, refers to the Oiler Success Center as a “one stop shop.”
“The Oiler Success Center is a general resource for all students, and we can answer all the random questions to help a student find the right resource,” said Sabel. She continued to explain that this resource to students can be helpful in many different areas including academic advising, career planning, and student advocacy.
Sabel continued to say that there is someone to help with all problems, especially when it comes to scheduling
“Someone needing to change their schedule is the most common question we get, and we can help with the scheduling issues,” explained Sabel. If any student is in search of how to get ahold of an advisor, find out who to talk to, or simply ask about their next step, the Oiler Success Center has resources to help.
Sabel even had a few tips for the new freshman class and the soon-to-be graduating seniors.
“The most important thing for new students to know is that it’s okay to ask for help,” said Sabel. “Ask for help the second you need it.” This advice goes for seniors as well, but they can benefit from more than just asking questions at the Oiler Success Center.
“We can help [seniors] with interdependence, which using the resources around to learn how to find the answers to the questions,” explained Sabel. “When they come in with a question, we might not tell them exactly what to do, but help them find the resources to do it.”
If you come to the Oiler Success Center with questions, you might be directed to the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD). The Administrative Assistant at the CCPD, Susan Eiserle, expressed how much this resource can help all students with anything from a resume to professional dress.
“Our goal is to help students with professional development so they can feel fully prepared for an interview,” said Eiserle. The CCPD specializes in preparing students for the future so they can be successful well after leaving the University of Findlay.
“We want [students] to feel confident in putting their best foot forward,” explained Eiserle. These types of resources are here for students to utilize before entering the professional world.
If you are searching for some help more related to your academics, Tessa Jenkins, a senior Pre-Vet and English double major, suggested tutoring.
“I use the tutoring center for chemistry because the tutors and very nice and helpful,” said Jenkins.
Tutoring can guide students in how to achieve the grade they want in their classes, so Jenkins advises students to use it when they are in need.
UF offers many different resources to help you handle all of the possible obstacles you may encounter, so don’t be afraid to ask for help and check them out!
