Student workers wanted

Another University of Findlay Welcome Week has come and gone, but not without showcasing some student employment opportunities.

Last Wednesday, August 21, UF hosted its annual Job Fair in the Alumni Memorial Union. Booths, poster boards, and representatives lined the room ready to both inform and hire UF students. From employers at the Mazza Museum here on campus, to Findlay area-elementary schools, there is a need for student workers both on campus and off.

Kelly Stahl, the friendly face behind the Whittier Primary Elementary school booth, says she is looking for student tutors for kindergarten through second grade students.

“It’s a great opportunity to build a relationship with a little kid, they absolutely adore the people that come in,” said Stahl. “It’s not difficult to do, you just listen to them, read flash cards to them, and play academic games with them.”

Though Whittier is an off-campus location, the position is still considered work study. Stahl says potential hours range from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday – typical school hours.

If students are looking to stay on campus, there are plenty of opportunities for them as well. Representatives from the UF Dining Services, theatre department, athletics, Shafer Library, WLFC, Findlay Media Network and the College of Pharmacy were all present and looking for student workers at the event too.

Heather Sensel, an education, volunteer and Mazza Museum coordinator says the position she’s offering allows students to jungle multiple jobs.

“The museum is open on Sundays so that’s one of the days we have student workers work in the gift shop, or work in the museum, or in our office, so we try to find three students,” said Sensel. “My goal this time is not to have the same people doing it every Sunday so maybe an every-other week flip. This is the perfect job you can have with another job.”

The hours for the job are 1-4 p.m. on Sunday with the work being very basic according to Sensel.

“Sometimes when you’re in the office it’s a good place to study, when you’re in the Museum you get to enjoy the art you get to talk to people you might not see, and in the gift shop, again, a little bit of studying or sitting at the counter.”
