Coming into the season, the women`s soccer team were projected to finish eighth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Aug. 17. After a little over a month of play, the team has been able to scratch the polls so far this season with an exceptional start to the season that has placed them in first place of the conference.

With new head coach James Walker and the coaching staff, the women`s team has begun the season with a 6-0-2 start with huge wins coming last week against top teams in Ohio Dominican and Cedarville.

Against Ohio Dominican, both teams sat at the top spots of the conference, but Findlay would look for vengeance in taking down the Panthers of Ohio Dominican. The Oilers team had yet to come up with a goal in the two games last season where Ohio Dominican outscored them 8-0. However, the Oilers were able to come out on top against the Panthers on Thursday this past week 2-1. The both goals came from Megan Kupetz, a GMAC Player of the Week recipient.

After the big win against Ohio Dominican, the Oilers had just two days to prepare for the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville, another top team in the conference coming to Findlay to compete at DeHaven Field. This game was different however as it would take extra time in order to decide a winner. 90 minutes of play would go by with a 0-0 score taking the contest into overtime.

In overtime, the teams continued to battle and go after one another. No score would come easy, but in the minute 98 of the contest, Lindsay Abhe was able to change not only the score, but add another tally to the win column for the Oilers. The Oilers would go on to win 1-0 in overtime and remain in first place. With the great defensive saves, Anna Money would be awarded the GMAC Player of the Week for her efforts.

The Oilers will have a few days before getting back to work on the field as they take on Malone on the road Thursday, Sept. 27.
