The University of Findlay’s annual Greek Week proved a success again this school year. With annual traditions like Wing-Off, and Mud Volleyball, as well as new ones like Backyard Shenanigans, students were bound to find a fun event that they could participate in during the week.
The week kicked off with Sigma Kappa’s Mud Volleyball. Despite inclement weather, students enjoyed mini corn dogs, chicken fingers, cake pops, and of course, Mud Volleyball. The event was cut short late in the second round due to thunder and lightning but will return next year.
The next event for Greek Week was Theta Chi’s Wing-Off. Chapter President, Sam Warye explains the event is often over-looked.
“In previous years the Wing-Off had become pushed aside and nearly forgotten,” Warye states. “If you ask any student on campus previously, they would not know what the Wing-Off is.”
However, Warye states this year was different. “The event we had last week was a complete 180.” Warye states. “We hosted over 120 students and had fantastic participation. I think it’s been a great new start for this event and Theta Chi Fraternity as a whole.”
A total of 11 teams participated with each team consisting of four people. Students were challenged to eat 11 wings before the next person on the team could start. The winning team received Buffalo Wild Wings gift cards.
The next day, the Wing-Off gave way to a different type of event. Phi Sigma Sigma’s Backyard Shenanigans was one of the more memorable events on campus during this week. The evening was filled with games such as corn hole, hillbilly golf, can jam and giant jenga. Raffle baskets were raffled off and many students brought their dogs to the festivities.
Backyard Shenanigan’s main event was a team-eating contest consisting of ice cream, watermelon, hot dogs, pie and root beer floats. With a total of five teams, each had to submit one member to a different item of food. In the end, every member of the team had to compete in the finale; a giant banana split sundae in a trough.
Phi Sigma Sigma Social Chairman, Natalia Prokop attributes the success of the event to the president of SGA. “We couldn’t have done it without (SGA President) Rebecka Stricker,” Prokop says.
