After a last place finish a year ago, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) preseason coaches’ poll once again has the Oilers picked to finish last in the North. Still, the Oilers will look to a large group of returning players to lead the way in 2016.

Findlay had six players appear in 100 at-bats a year ago and they will all be back in 2016. Those six players, Peter Yorgen, Cameron Johnson, Kevin Schrock, Troy Merriman, Josh Schwerer, and Pete Burkett will look to use their experience to improve on last years season.

“The goal is to win every day,” said Burkett. “That can be in practice or in actual games.”

The strength of the team in 2015 was their pitching and on the mound the Oilers will return honorable mention all-conference pick from a year ago, Austin Rodesky. The junior posted four complete games in his sophomore campaign and struck out 56 batters in his 58.2 innings of work.

“I think the attitude around the team is very positive,” said Rodesky. “We’re just ready to get to Florida and get this thing started.”

The team will open up in Auburndale, Florida on Feb. 28 against Notre Dame College for a double header. They will play eight games in the sunshine state before heading back to Ohio.
